    MAD MIRROR Awards

    The award for digital presence

The MAD MIRROR Awards rate how well hotels, beach clubs, restaurants and other businesses are found, understood and booked online: on Google, in AI assistants like ChatGPT and on a phone. Ratings go from one to three Mirrors and rest on an open measurement that is the same for everyone.

    The rating

    One to three Mirrors

A Mirror is the unit of the rating, like a star in a restaurant guide. The three bars come from the MAD MIRROR STUDIOS logo: the more of them light up, the better the rating.

    1. 1 Mirror

      Very good

A very good digital presence: guests find the venue, understand it and book without a detour.

From 70 points in the Mirror Score.

    2. 2 Mirrors

      Excellent

Clearly ahead of the market, with no real weakness in any of the seven disciplines.

From 80 points, no discipline below 50.

    3. 3 Mirrors

      Exceptional

Sets the standard for the whole market, strong in every discipline.

From 90 points, no discipline below 70, every discipline measured.

    What we measure

    Seven disciplines, one Mirror Score

55 criteria, each with fixed points. The disciplines are weighted by what moves guests and bookings most.

    • Google (SEO)

      18%

May Google index the page? Plus title, description, main heading, sitemap, canonical, alt texts and real 404 pages.

    • AI visibility (GEO)

      18%

May ChatGPT, Perplexity and Gemini read the site, do they find text without JavaScript, and do they learn what the business is, where and when it's open?

    • Mobile speed

      22%

Lighthouse in mobile emulation: largest element load time, layout shifts, responsiveness, server, page weight, image formats, lazy loading.

    • Booking and contact

      14%

Reservation system, call to book, WhatsApp, tap-to-call phone, email or form, Google Maps: the path from looking to booking.

    • Tech and trust

      10%

Legal notice, privacy policy, working links, a secure connection, current content, accessibility and reviews: whether guests can trust the site.

    • Languages

      9%

How many languages the site speaks, whether they're linked with hreflang and whether there's an English version.

    • Video and social

      9%

Video on the homepage, a picture for shared links and linked channels: Instagram, TikTok or YouTube, Facebook.

    Principles

Why you can trust the Awards

    1. 01

      Measured, not opinion

Every point comes from the same automated measurement, on the same day, under the same rules. Taste doesn't count: design stays out of the score.

    2. 02

We only name those who earn something

A venue is named only when it earns a Mirror, a Test Winner title or a top-five place. Nobody is put on display for a weak website.

    3. 03

      Not for sale

A rating can't be bought, and work for us earns no points. Venues we worked for in the 24 months before a measurement are measured the same way, but out of competition: no Test Winner title, no Mirrors, with a disclosure.

    4. 04

      Open method

Every criterion, point and threshold is public, with a version number (currently 1.1). We announce changes before an edition.

    5. 05

      Corrections at any time

If a website was down during the measurement or we checked the wrong address, write to us. We measure again and correct it publicly.

    6. 06

      Valid for one year

Mirrors and Test Winner titles apply to one edition. Next year we measure everyone again, winners included.

    What an award brings

    • A badge for your own website, as HTML or PNG. It links to the edition, so any guest can verify the award.
    • A listing in the edition with name, category and Mirror Score, quotable for press and your own channels.
    • Valid for one year. Then we measure everyone again, winners included.

    FAQ

    Frequently asked questions

What are the MAD MIRROR Awards?

The MAD MIRROR Awards rate how well hotels, beach clubs, restaurants and other businesses are found, understood and booked online: on Google, in AI assistants like ChatGPT and on a phone. Ratings go from one to three Mirrors and rest on an open measurement that is the same for everyone.

What do one, two and three Mirrors mean?

1 Mirror (Very good): A very good digital presence: guests find the venue, understand it and book without a detour. From 70 points in the Mirror Score. 2 Mirrors (Excellent): Clearly ahead of the market, with no real weakness in any of the seven disciplines. From 80 points, no discipline below 50. 3 Mirrors (Exceptional): Sets the standard for the whole market, strong in every discipline. From 90 points, no discipline below 70, every discipline measured.

How does a venue become Test Winner?

The Test Winner is the venue with the highest Mirror Score in its category in an edition, provided it reaches at least one Mirror. Clients of MAD MIRROR STUDIOS are out of competition and can't win the title.

Can a rating be bought, or can I apply?

A rating can't be bought. We choose the venues of each edition from public lists and our own knowledge of the market. You can suggest your venue for the next edition; it is then measured like every other.

How do I check my own website?

With the free Website Check: it measures your homepage in about two minutes against the same 55 criteria and shows the rating you'd reach today and which fixes take you to the next Mirror. Official Mirrors are only awarded in the editions of the MAD MIRROR Awards.

Why doesn't design count in the Mirror Score?

Because design is a matter of taste, and a rating with Test Winner titles may only rest on what can be measured. The Website Check still gives you a separate design read, kept apart from the score.
