How Does ChatGPT Recommend Your Restaurant or Hotel in Ibiza?
Where ChatGPT and Google's AI Mode find Ibiza tips and what restaurants and hotels can change. At Vanilla Beach, one in three search visits comes from ChatGPT.

ChatGPT recommends a restaurant or hotel in Ibiza when it finds clear, current and easy-to-read information about it online: on the venue's own website, in its Google Business Profile, in reviews and in travel guides. A venue that answers location, cuisine, opening hours, reservations and common guest questions clearly and in several languages gets mentioned more often than one with a beautiful but thin website. There's no guarantee, but the odds are good.
We know this from our own work. In 2026 we built the Vanilla Beach Ibiza website with five languages and online reservations. Today it ranks in Google's top 5 for 710 keywords, and one in three search visits comes from ChatGPT. Since 2023 we've worked in Ibiza for beach clubs, restaurants and hotels like Tantra Ibiza, Rigatoni Ibiza and Migjorn Ibiza Suites & Spa. Our studio is in Barcelona, and during the season we're on the island regularly.

Where ChatGPT, Perplexity and Google get their Ibiza tips
When a guest asks "Where can I eat on the beach in Ibiza with a sunset view?", ChatGPT, Perplexity and Google's AI Mode don't just answer from their training data. For current questions about places, they search the web, read the pages they find and summarize them, usually with links to the sources. ChatGPT uses its search feature and the OAI-SearchBot crawler, Perplexity uses its own PerplexityBot, and Google uses its own search index.
The sources are almost always the same types: the venue's website, its Google Business Profile, review sites, travel guides, press articles and forums. The AI gives weight to what matches. If your website says "open year-round" but your profile says "May to October", the AI gets unsure and would rather name a venue where all the details line up.
That leads to the most important rule: your own website is the only source you fully control. It has to supply the facts that every other source can build on.
Clear facts an AI can pick up directly
AI systems look for sentences they can pass on without reinterpreting them. "A place where dreams come true" helps no machine. "Beach restaurant on the west coast of Ibiza, Mediterranean cuisine, open daily for lunch and dinner from May to October, online reservations" helps right away, because every piece of information answers a possible guest question.
These facts belong as text on your homepage or a dedicated info page, not just in images or PDFs. A scanned menu or opening hours on an Instagram graphic are hard or impossible for search systems to read. Every restaurant, beach club or hotel website in Ibiza should list these details as text:
- Name, type of venue and the town or beach where it's located
- Cuisine or room types, in concrete terms instead of marketing language
- Opening hours and season dates, including the winter break
- Reservations or bookings with a direct link
- Directions by car, taxi, bus or boat, plus parking info
- Special features like a sunset view, kids, vegan dishes, dogs or events

Answers to guest questions instead of marketing speak
Guests talk to AI assistants in full sentences: "Is the restaurant kid-friendly?", "Do I need a reservation in August?", "Are there vegan dishes?", "How do I get there without a car?". The closer your website's wording is to these questions, the easier it is for the AI to match your answer to a specific question and cite you as a source.
An FAQ section works best, with the first sentence of each answer fully answering the question. Collect the questions where they actually come up: on the phone, in WhatsApp messages, in reviews and from your service team. That list is worth more than any keyword research, because it reflects the way your guests talk.
The same goes for hotels and villas, just with different questions: distance to the airport, check-in times, kids, spa, transfers. Beach clubs add sunbed reservations, dress code and event dates. If you use the sunset as a selling point, give the actual sunset time.
Language versions: guests ask in their own language
Ibiza lives on guests from many countries. A family from Munich asks in German, a couple from London in English, guests from mainland Spain in Spanish. AI assistants can translate, but a dedicated language version gives them a source that matches the question exactly. An English-only website misses out on every other guest.
What matters is real translation, not an automatic widget: separate URLs per language, translated page titles and descriptions, correct hreflang tags and translated FAQs. The Vanilla Beach Ibiza website we built in 2026 runs in five languages with online reservations. Guests find the same facts in their own language and can book directly.
Structured data, Business Profile and open doors for crawlers
Structured data based on schema.org describes your venue so machines can read it without ambiguity: type restaurant or hotel, address, coordinates, opening hours, cuisine, menu, reservation link. It doesn't guarantee a mention, but it clears up misunderstandings. What counts is that the data matches the visible text on the page.
Your Google Business Profile should show your name, address, phone number and opening hours exactly as they appear on your website. Seasonal venues in Ibiza should set the winter break and season opening as special hours, so no AI sends guests to a locked door in February.
Also check your robots.txt. Some hosting plans and security plugins block AI crawlers by default. OpenAI separates GPTBot for training from OAI-SearchBot for search: you can opt out of training and still show up in ChatGPT search.

What Vanilla Beach shows and how to measure AI visits
For Vanilla Beach Ibiza, we rebuilt the website in 2026: five languages, online reservations, clearly written content. Today it ranks in Google's top 5 for 710 keywords, and one in three search visits comes from ChatGPT. For hospitality in Ibiza, AI search isn't a future topic anymore. It's a channel that's already sending guests to the reservation page.
You can measure this yourself: filter your analytics tool for referrals from chatgpt.com and perplexity.ai. ChatGPT adds the parameter utm_source=chatgpt.com to many links. Google doesn't report its AI Mode as a separate channel, so those visits show up as Google search. A simple test helps too: every month, ask ChatGPT and Perplexity about venues like yours, in German, English and Spanish.
The MAD MIRROR Awards Ibiza 2026 show how digitally ready Ibiza's restaurants and hotels are overall. The end of October is a good time for an overhaul: the season is over, and search systems have time to read the new content before the 2027 season opens.
Frequently asked questions
How do I get ChatGPT to recommend my restaurant in Ibiza?
ChatGPT recommends your restaurant when its web search finds clear, consistent information about it, especially on your website, your Google Business Profile and in reviews. Put your location, cuisine, opening hours, reservations and answers to common guest questions on your site as text, in several languages. Make sure the OAI-SearchBot crawler is allowed to read your website.
How do I know if ChatGPT already mentions my hotel?
The easiest way is to ask yourself: put the questions your guests would ask to ChatGPT and Perplexity, in German, English and Spanish. Your analytics tool also shows visits referred by chatgpt.com or perplexity.ai. Repeat the test regularly, because the answers change.
What is GEO and does my restaurant need it?
GEO stands for Generative Engine Optimization, which means optimizing content for AI answers in ChatGPT, Perplexity or Google's AI Mode. For restaurants and hotels in Ibiza, that mainly means clear facts, answers to guest questions and clean language versions. Much of it also helps in regular Google search.
Do I need a new website for AI search?
Not necessarily: better copy, an FAQ section, structured data and real language versions on your existing site are often enough. A new website makes sense if your content only lives in images or PDFs, language versions are missing or the tech blocks crawlers. For Vanilla Beach Ibiza, we rebuilt the website from scratch in 2026.
Do Google reviews help with AI assistant recommendations?
Yes, reviews are among the sources AI assistants use for recommendations. They show what guests praise your venue for, like the sunset, the service or being kid-friendly. Reply to reviews and keep your Google Business Profile up to date with the same facts as your website.
When should I get my Ibiza website ready for the 2027 season?
Ideally now, in the off-season, between October and spring. Search systems need time to find and process new content before the first guests plan their summer. If you start in May, you'll miss some of the early booking enquiries.
